How To Install Gutters Using Chalk Line

Measure and record the distance from the bottom of the fascia board to this nail. Continue this process with gutter sections. Repeat this process around the perimeter of the roof until all the gutter locations are adequately marked. Press the cap onto one end of the gutter.

For every 10 feet of gutter from this measurement and mark this distance at the low end of the gutter run. Hold another elbow against the house and cut a piece of downspout to fit between the two elbows. Using a ladder snap a chalk line between the corners where you marked the old gutter locations. Measure the end point of the gutter with downward slope.

Hidden fasteners are placed every 24 inches along the gutter run. You only need a slight slope to drain water. Use needlenosed pliers to slightly crimp the elbow to fit into the downspout as shown. Get the chalk line to determine and mark the highest point of the gutter run.

Use a chalk line and make a mark from the inside of drain outlet. Begin by installing a slip joint splice on each end of an inside corner fitting. Determine the length of the gutter by measuring the fascia. Hook one side of the chalk line to the nail at the start of the gutter run.

Cut the hole for the downspout using a hole saw. Use a square and pencil to mark the gutter length and cut to the line. When the old gutters are removed you need to mark the slope for the new gutters. Place a chalk line across the fascia to create an appropriate angle toward the downspout end.

Measure the fascia to determine the length of the gutter. Snap a chalk line between the start and end of the gutter run. Firmly hit the top of the nails with a hammer to drive them into each point. Secure the downspout outlet to the gutter with four pop rivets or screws.

Below the shingles on the high side of the gutter run. Locate the endpoints and hold a nail over each. Drag the string to the end point and hook it over the nail. Apply gutter sealant to the end cap.

Apply gutter sealant to an end cap then press the cap onto one end of the gutter. Installing gutters in 18 steps snap a chalk line across the fascia creating the proper pitch toward the downspout end. When installing gutters set the proper slope by driving a nail 1 2 in. Slide the splices on as far as they ll go.

Mark a line with chalk on the fascia every 10 feet 3 0 m and moving down 1 2 inch 1 3 cm for every point. Install gutters 1 1 1 2 the end point so that they can drain water from overhanging shingles. Then trim the first section of the gutter to length with tin snips. You will need to mark and cut the holes to install the downspout.
